Honeymoon in Greece

Doubtless, honeymoon is one of the most precious and awaited events in the life of a newly married couple. It has to be an unforgettable experience, a full of happiness start for both partners so they will have beautiful and priceless memories to look back during their entire life. In order for it to be an experience as the couple has already dreamt, honeymoon should be well organized. In this article, we will give you some ideas for romantic and unique honeymoons in Greece. Blue skies and deep blue sea, whitewashed houses and exotic sandy beaches with crystalline waters create the most perfect scenery for this special vacation. Before knowing more about ideal places for a honeymoon in Greece, let’s see from where this this idea from…

How honeymoon began

The word honeymoon first appeared in the ancient Babylon before 4000 years approximately… there the ceremony of a marriage was taking place only during nights with full moon. The groom had to drink a mix of beer and honey every day until the next full moon, so this caused the name honeymoon thanks to the full-of-honey month! Dozens of years later, the ancient Athenians when getting married, didn’t work for a whole month so they were enjoying their new life with their heart’s chosen for a long time. Instead of Athenians, the poor Spartans had to appear at the everyday exercises… the Thracians who were considered as barbarians had a special month after their marriage dedicated to the couple and the goddess of fertility…! At the recent days, maybe we don’t have the chance to have a honeymoon of a full month but even for fewer days we can have a unique and magic honeymoon to live. If not getting married in Greece, one of the best places to spend your first lovely days of your married life is obviously Greece. Below you will understand why.

Honeymoon in Santorini

In Santorini, you can survey amazing landscapes at small villages, the amazing beaches with dark shingles and white or red sand. A lot of people claimed that the sunset view is the best sight of the island and many couples from all over the world come in Santorini just to enjoy it. In Santorini, you will find plenty of excellent quality hotels with romantic atmosphere and breathtaking view of the volcano.

Honeymoon in Corfu

The Venetian effect in the culture life of Corfu and its irresistible natural beauty, make this magic Ionian island, one of the top touristic destinations. Every visitor is charmed from the romantic atmosphere and the gorgeous sceneries and the same happens for them who choose for their honeymoon this lovely place. Hardly someone can meet in other place in Greece the romanticism which offers the old town of Corfu. The two fortresses of Corfu which are considered as architectural masterpieces, the old Venetian buildings and the byzantine churches lead you on a journey back in time. In the island, except the architectural sights, there are also natural sights with extraordinary beauty as the beaches… the nicest of them are located at the west side of Corfu and some of the most special are the Canal d’ Amour, the Almyros  and the Astrakeri beaches. If you are an active couple who love the sport activities, you are lucky as Corfu distinguish itself for its tournament organizations for riding, tennis, golf, even cricket.

Honeymoon in Corinthian Trikala

Corinthian Trikala (3 villages) are at the northern part of Peloponnese at altitude of 900-1000 meters on the sides of the mountain Ziria. It’s an ideal destination for a honeymoon and lovely destination for a lot of couples for all the seasons as they are very close to Athens (just 1 and a half hours). The word and name of the villages Trikala ( 3 goods) means the three nice things of the area: fresh air, many vineyards with the fantastic local wine and the many fresh water sources. You can visit the cave in which according to the myth was born the Olympian god Hermes, a cave with amazing stalactites, also the full of wildflowers lake of Dasiou and an impressive flora and fauna for the natural lovers couples. Beautiful, high quality and traditional guest houses can host your love. If you make true your honeymoon dream during the winter, you can also visit the ski resort of the area.
