The town of Karpenisi

In the central part of Greece there is a remote area known as Karpenisi. Karpenisi is a small town, situated in a valley area of the Karpenisiotis River, a tributary of the Achelous and the Megdova Rivers. The area around Karpenisi is mountainous while farmlands are mainly in valley areas. Mount Tymfristos lies to the north elevating at nearly 2,315 m. Another mountain dominates the south. Karpenisi is a popular destination, especially during winter. The town has an alpine-village feel to it, with chalet-style lodgings mixed in among its churches, tavernas and bakeries. The traditional architecture has been preserved intact over the years in the town and in the surrounding villages.

In the city center you can admire the Square “Mark Botsaris,” . In one corner of the square is situated the church of Holy Trinity and the City Hall, which is the statue of Mark Botsaris. Taking a walk in the streets of small town you will find countless shops with traditional products.12 km north of Karpenisi, on  a plateau called Timfristos,  lies Karpenisi ski Center. This is one of the largest and most spectacular ski resorts in Greece. Starting at 1800 meters and ending up to about 2100, the area is ideal as it contains sufficient snow quantities for quite a long time. Founded in 1974 by private individuals,  it offers high quality services to visitors, making it one way of the most popular ski resorts in Greece. Here you can experience the unique experience of night skiing and make your first steps in the sport by attending a ski school. You can also buy or rent all the equipment you need or ride with motor sledges (snowmobiles). If all this sounds too complicated to you, you can just enjoy your coffee or drink at the chalet park, overlooking the snow-capped peaks of Evritania.

The ski resort has 7 lifts which are capable of carrying 5150 people per hour. It consists of 11 tracks of different ski levels, from easy to very hard. The Grand Village of Evritania is a small village, about 17 km away from Karpenisi has many picturesque streets and has a strong tourist industry. At the Grand Village you can visit the Folk Museum where there are exhibits that illustrate the long forgotten history of the village. The churches of “St. Athanasios” and Agia Paraskevi will impress you with their views and architecture. The Little Village of Evritania is a beautiful mountainous village near the great village. The village is built in the woods among the pine trees and lush nature. The picturesque green scenery will amaze you. The Monastery Prousso is 31 km from Karpenisi. The location of the monastery is magnificent. It is half-built half into the rocks and the other half hangs out. The landscape is unique and offers branch of peace and piety to the pilgrims who go there to visit. Karpenisi has all modern facilities and is able to accommodate large crowds. It has well-maintained buildings, hotels, taverns with excellent cuisine, hospitable people and nature with incomparable beauty. Visitors can feel the warmth and magic the region by the moment they arrive.
