Acropolis Rally: The Rally of Gods!

If you have decided to visit Greece then you cannot afford to miss the Acropolis Rally in Greece. It is called the ‘Rally of Gods’. Hence, it must be something that cannot be ignored, neglected or missed. The rally is considered to be one of the most fantastic and attractive car rallies that are held in the whole world. It is a rally which is witnessed by one and all. Not only the local people have a great deal of interest in the rally, but tourists from all over the world also flock together to witness this grand event. It is actually a festival in Greece, if you look at it in that way. People who are passionate about car races and motor sports will definitely celebrate this game and watch it without fail. This rally attracts and impresses tourists from all parts of the world. It is a unique and the one of the most memorable experiences that you will ever have. You come in contact the major physical elements of the environment like the sun, air and the earth. The participant experiences an adventurous ride as he climbs rocks, drives through hilly areas, rocky roads and treads along paths and regions which he will hardly think of treading. It is an adventure in itself. It is an adventure with the nature. It is one of the best competitions in the world. The Acropolis Rally of Greece takes place on dusty and rocky mountain roads. It is held in Athens during summer season. This event promotes tourism in Greece.

The cars are segregated into two categories. One is according to the cubic capacity of the car’s engine and the other depends on the alterations that have been made to the car. Simple and specialized are two categories that are introduced when the circuits of the rally are concerned. The simple circuits are completed on paved roads while the specialized ones are taken on unpaved roads. The participant who has completed the race in the least time emerges triumphant. There are certain rules and regulations, like every car race or rally. Penalties are imposed if any of them is breached. The servicing of the car also takes place. It is serviced at a particular and specific area. There are service workshops available. It is serviced for around thirty minutes. There is a certain rule with regards to this particular rally. If, by any chance, the car malfunctions before the completion fifty kilometers then the car can be serviced. It can be treated by its driver and the co-driver only. It cannot be touched by any outsider. But if it breaks down or doesn’t perform after completing fifty kilometers then it will not be provided any service. At the end of the day, all the cars are parked in a particular area where the participants, spectators or the crew members cannot reach. Before the commencement of the rally, the cars are parked in an order. The order starts from the car which has the largest engine to the ones with the smaller ones. The participants in the simple circuit calculate the start and finish time and scores accordingly. There is a time gap of two minutes for each participant for the start.

Huge responsibility lies on the shoulders of the judges too. They are entrusted with the work of time counts of each and every car. They should also penalize the participants who break the rules and breach the regulations. The responsibility of the judges is to supervise the time count of the entrants, to enforce penalties if necessary, and to make certain the rules are not breached.

There are certain things that a spectator should keep in mind before going for the match. You should reach the place well in advance, from where you wish to watch the match. They must choose those areas only from where they can watch the match safely and without facing any troubles. Watch the markings on the tracks and keep a good note of the ribbon tapes on the fields. They should not be crossed at any cost. Some people are prone to ignore certain rules which should be followed by one and all. You are advised not to go to the places and areas which are classified as unsafe by the authorities. Places which are warned by the organizers of the rally not to visit should be avoided without a second thought. Your cars should be parked in such areas that do not create hindrances for the rally participants.

All contenders of World Rally Championship actually were in an entry list of Acropolis Rally 2012. Acropolis Rally 2012 started at Thursday 24 May during 17:00 with ceremonial start at Zappeio & 55crews participating in the rally.
